Khliehriat MLA, Kyrmen Shylla, announced that the United Democratic Party (UDP) is gearing up for the upcoming MDC elections, with district leaders granted the freedom to select candidates.
He noted that the party has yet to finalize candidates for a few constituencies in Jaintia Hills but assured that all six current MDCs in the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) will be given tickets to contest again.
Declining to disclose specific names, Kyrmen said the party’s approach to engage with voters, urging them to consider not just promises but the past work and contributions of their leaders.
“As we reach out to people, we encourage them to look at the work done by our leaders and to make their choice based on that,” he said.
He also remarked that electing UDP leaders to the ruling side rather than the Opposition would provide the region with greater benefits, particularly in creating more employment opportunities. Kyrmen, who is also as a Minister in the MDA-II government, highlighted the advantages of having leaders in the ruling party to drive development and job growth in the community.
