SHILLONG, March 24: The National People’s Party (NPP) Meghalaya unit has confirmed that it will field a candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha by-election expected to be held in the coming months.
State NPP president Prestone Tynsong said the party has already decided to contest the bypoll, adding that the name of the candidate will be finalised and announced in due course.
On the possibility of support from other coalition partners in the government, Tynsong said it would be up to the allied parties to decide whether to back the NPP candidate or contest independently.
He, however, made it clear that the NPP is fully prepared to enter the fray regardless of the stance taken by its allies.
