NorthEast United made history by securing its first-ever silverware, defeating Mohun Bagan SG 2-2 (4-3 on penalties) to win the Durand Cup 2024.
Mohun Bagan took an early lead with a penalty converted by Jason Cummins in the 10th minute, followed by a goal from Sahal Abdul Samad just before halftime. However, NorthEast United staged a remarkable comeback, with Ajaraie and Guillermo scoring in the 55th and 58th minutes, respectively, to level the match.
The game was ultimately decided by a penalty shootout, where NEUFC goalkeeper Gurmeet Singh made two crucial saves, securing a 4-3 victory and etching NorthEast United’s name in the history books with their first major trophy.
