SHILLONG, February 18: The Special Director General of Police of Meghalaya, Smti. Idashisha Nongrang stated that the Police Department has received an FIR filed by the Nokma of Nengchigen village under the jurisdiction of Shallang Police Station alleging that coal is being mined from a clan property.
As per the FIR filed by the Nokma, Kristina G.Marak, she has alleged that the police are involved in the illegal trade by collecting ₹500 from each truck and at the same time also alleged that insurgents are also employed to instill fear in the minds of those opposing the said illegal coal mining.
Speaking with media persons today, Nongrang stated that the police have received an FIR and a case has also been registered and at present the police are conducting their investigations based on the FIR.
The Police Chief of Meghalaya also said that the police are not only conducting an investigation on the allegation but they have also pursued other illegal activities arising from the mining and trade of coal and also informed that several cases have already been registered. She further said that about 90% of the registered cases over mining and trade operations of coal has been handled directly by the police.
