SHILLONG, June 20: The Power Department of the State has failed in providing a response to the RTI filed by Disparsing Rani on the provision of electricity connection to residents of Them Metor or Them Ïew Mawlong.
Rani said that he had filed an RTI seeking to know from the MeECL about this matter on the 1st of April, 2022. The RTI seeks to know from the MeECL if the residents of Them Ïew Mawlong have proper documents or land deeds because in order to get electricity connection in houses, land or house ownership documents are required for verification, however he said that it has been almost 2 months now and no response has been received even after he had sent an appeal again as a reminder.
He informed that the information he has sought through the RTI includes the number of vacancies in the MeECL,number of retired employees, necessary documents for a new electricity connection, and he also sought the names of the residents residing in Harijan Colony,Them Ïew Mawlong, the land deeds or documents of those residents or NOC issued by the Syiem of Hima Mylliem or SMB before electricity connection was granted them.
Rani said that as per the RTI Act, when an RTI is sought, the department concerned must respond within 40 days but it is now more than 40 days followed by an appeal already sent on the 7th of this month, but as yet he has received no response at all pushing him to warn them that in the event the department does not response, he shall file a complaint on this matter to the Chief Information Commissioner of the State.
