SHILLONG, April 06: The President of the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), K.P Pangngiang said that the maps and notifications do not show that the 12 sites of disputes come under Meghalaya and said that the State must have its own map.
He said that in Meghalaya, three maps are used and besides the map issued by the GSI, another map is used by the Secretariat while the third map map is issued by the Department of Revenue and Disaster Management of the State.
He said that as per the maps issued in 2009, even the map used by the Election Department does not include the 12 sites of border dispute with Assam, and it is important to redraw a new map.
Pangngiang said that the HSPDP, ever since Statehood was achieved in 1972 was opposed to the idea of the State of Meghalaya being granted without proper boundaries drawn.
The leader of the HSPDP also said that at the time when he was the MLA, he had raised this issue in the State Legislative Assembly in 2017 when Professor.R.C.Laloo was the Minister incharge of the Department of Revenue and Disaster Management.
