Shillong: The Superintendent of Police (SP) East Khasi Hills, Sylvester Nongtnger on Tuesday informed that the victim is friend with one of the accused and she visited his house in Malki.
The SP added that the incident occurred at the accused’s house in Malki while no one else was at home. During this time, the second accused also arrived at the house and participated in the crime.
The incident took place on August 29 and on the following day, a complaint was lodged at the Laitumkhrah Police Station. The police swiftly apprehended one of the accused on the same day and the second suspect from Smit the next day.
Both suspects were presented in court and have been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. The SP confirmed that the police are working to complete the chargesheet within two months, as required by law.
SP Nongtnger also urged the public to promptly report any cases of violence against women and children to the police, stressing the importance of timely legal intervention.
