SHILLONG, July 25: The Meghalaya Assembly Committee on Empowerment of Women (MACEW) today the 25th of July has summoned the administrators of the many employment agencies or groups in the State which includes the groups engaged in providing employees for NEHU, NEIGRHIMS and other offices in Shillong.
As per the statement of the Chairperson of the MACEW, Dr. M.Ampareen Lyngdoh, a summon for the administrators of these agencies comes after information received in the rights of the employees being overlooked and not being given due importance.
She said the Committee wants to know if the women working in these agencies get their rightful dues during pregnancy, if they get their 6 months maternity leave because as per what has been informed, the employees in NEHU, NEIGRHIMS and other organisations employed through these agencies do not get paid anymore once they have kids and once they take their maternity leave they no longer can go back to their employment.
Furthermore she also said that the Committee also wants to know if Provident Fund or any other supporting facility is available for them because some times the women cannot even avail sick leave.
Ampareen Lyngdoh informed that in the summon of the MACEW today, the agencies had sent their respective representatives who could not take a decision and the committee has therefore called them again on the 8th of August to present their clarifications.
