The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Narpuh unit has filed a complaint with the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board, opposing the proposed construction of a cement plant by Mega Top Cement Limited in Wahiajer, Narpuh Elaka. On September 20, KSU President K.S. Suchiang and Environment Committee Secretary WD Gympad voiced their concerns over the environmental impact and accused the Doloi of Narpuh Elaka of bypassing traditional protocols by issuing a Provisional NOC without holding a proper Dorbar Elaka meeting.
KSU highlighted that the region is already burdened with multiple cement plants, which have severely affected the environment, leading to water pollution, air quality degradation, rising temperatures, and the destruction of rivers in the area.
