KHNAM working president raises concerns over misuse of Trading By Non-Tribal License Act by KHADC

HEADLINES

The Working President of KHNAM, Thomas Passah expressed concerns over the misuse of the Trading By Non-Tribal License Act, 1954, which, he claims, has primarily been used by the KHADC to generate revenue rather than serve its intended purpose.

In a separate development, KHNAM submitted a petition to the Executive Member in charge of Trade at the KHADC, raising concerns about the illegal opening of shops by non-tribals in Them Ïewmawlong without the required trading licenses. Passah pointed out that since the reopening of the road in Them Metor, several unlicensed shops have sprung up and KHNAM has demanded the immediate closure of these establishments, as they violate the Trading By Non-Tribal License Act of 1954, which mandates that non-tribal traders must obtain a trading license.

Passah also emphasised KHNAM’s call for the KHADC to revise and strengthen the existing Trading Act as he expressed surprise that only non-tribal shops have are being run near the KHADC.
