SHILLONG, February 17: The Executive Committee of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has approved the formation of a Town Committee to look into the cleanliness and sanitation of the different localities in Shillong city.
The Chief Executive Member of the KHADC, Titostarwell Chyne said that the Executive Committee has had detailed discussions on the order of the Meghalaya High Court relating to the waste in Shillong city under the jurisdiction of the KHADC arriving at a consensus to form new Town Committees to look into the cleanliness and sanitation of the city.
The CEM also said that the Council will write to the Government as the Government has received financial assistance from the Central Government under the Clean Wahumkhrah Scheme and said that the letter to be sent to the Government will also seek a clarification because as pointed in the Scheme, the District Council too has a part in the Scheme of the Central Government.
On the other hand, Chyne said that the Council has also decided to speed up the implementation of the ‘Tied’ Scheme which relates to water and sanitation for the benefit of the different localities.
As per the statement of the Chief Executive Member, the KHADC has received the first installment for this scheme which is ₹20 crores and the MDCs have been instructed to submit their proposals as per the norms prescribed.
