SHILLONG, May 18: The Union Minister of State incharge of the Department of Law and Justice, Prof. Satya Pal Singh Baghel said that it is the responsibility of society to free the children from bad influences, while also stating that it is necessary to provide good quality education to the children and stop them from mingling with friends who have a bad influence on them besides paying attention to the family situation because these are the reasons which lead the children towards detrimental activities and crime.
S.P.Baghel visited Shillong today and also paid a visit at the juvenile jail and informed that there are 17 children in the jail.
Speaking with media persons, he said that in other States of India, there are many POCSO cases, but in Meghalaya crime against children is still very low.
The Minister of State today also called for a meeting with government officials and the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority with regard to the implementation of Central Government schemes for the construction of fast track courts.
Baghel informed that more than Rs.700 crores has been allocated by the Central Government for the construction and meeting the requirements of fast track courts, especially to speed up the POCSO cases, and he said that up till now, the implementation of the scheme from the allocated budget is satisfactory. He also informed that some pending work are there for which the State Government has sought for more funding from the Central Government.
