Is the NPP hitting the magic number?

HEADLINES

Shillong: The strength of the National People’s Party (NPP) post the 2023 Assembly Election has been increasing from 26 to 28 on Saturday as the two People Democratic Front (PDF) MLAs merged with the NPP in a grant ceremony at the NPP head office in Shillong.

The duo – Gavin Mylliem of Sohra and Banteidor Lyngdoh of Mawkynrew were welcomed  by NPP National President and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Deputy CM and party vice President Prestone Tyngsong and many other NPP leaders present.

While speaking to reporters after the ceremony, Deputy CM who is also the National vice president of the NPP, Prestone Tyngsong after the merging program of the PDF informed that as a party leader he has reached out to other political parties over a possible merge with the NPP.

“It is our duty to reach out to other political parties, as simple as that”, said Dy CM Tyngsong.

On asked if the NPP has reached out to the BJP over a possible merge with the NPP, Tyngsong said, “we have reached out to everybody, even the BJP also. Whether it is possible or not, you see, it is our duty to reach out to every political parties”.

Responding to a question, Dy CM Tyngsong said that the UDP is still part and parcel with the NPP led MDA-II Government. But, the future is uncertain, added the Deputy CM.

“Right now, yes they are continuing with us. But, I don’t know about the future, let us see how it goes then that time only we all can tell you”, said Dy CM.

“Right now I do not want to comment, but political change take place maybe every day, maybe every week so I don’t want to say anything on that”, said Dy CM on a question if the UDP will continue to be in the government post Sohiong election.

The Deputy CM however said that he expected more to merge with the NPP. “The doors of the NPP are always open, why not others follow suit”, he added.

Deputy CM ahead of the Assembly election has always been positive that with the leadership of the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and himself, the NPP will definitely hit the “Magic Number” of 31-32 elected representatives. Post election, the claimed of the Deputy CM may came true. As he has quoted, “everything can happen in politics, political changes occurs every day or every month”
