The Meghalaya Government has expressed its readiness to hold talks with the leaders of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) over their demands.

Speaking on Wednesday, Cabinet Minister and Government spokesperson Wailadmiki Shylla said the government wanted to make it clear that it was ready to engage in dialogue, listen to the union’s concerns and take necessary action.

Shylla also invited KSU leaders to come forward and hold discussions with the government on their demands.

The KSU had given the government 15 days to respond to its five demands. The deadline expired on August 18, following which the union announced that it would launch a series of protests, including a black-flag rally across Shillong.

On Wednesday, KSU members were also seen putting up banners outside the main gate of the Secretariat to highlight their demands before the government.
