Inauguration of the Raibah Living Library – A Step in Futurity

HEADLINES

The Departments of Social Work and Khasi, Captain Williamson Sangma State University (CWSSU), in collaboration with Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU), inaugurated the Raibah Living Library on November 1, 2025, at Raibah Village, South West Khasi Hills. Themed “A Step in Futurity,” the project—funded by Royal Enfield & Green Hub—aims to reimagine libraries as spaces of living stories and indigenous knowledge revival.

The event opened with school interactions, oral storytelling on Khasi hero Sngap Sing Syiem, cultural performances, and traditional games. Students and elders shared the oral history of Raibah, while artists and local schools performed dramas and songs celebrating local heritage.

A short film on the TALES (Tangible Active Learning & Engagement Scaffolds) initiative was screened, emphasizing participatory learning. The agreement was formally handed over to the Raibah Living Library Committee, symbolizing community ownership.

The event ended with performances by the Department of Music, MLCU, and Chosterfield Khongwir, whose folk-inspired songs encapsulated the spirit of the initiative—bridging education, art, and identity. The day concluded with a community feast celebrating unity and shared purpose.

The Raibah Living Library marks a pioneering rural model in Meghalaya, merging culture, creativity, and environmental consciousness to empower communities through storytelling and intergenerational learning.
