IN A BID TO ESCAPE KIDNAPPING, SCORPIO HITS UMLING COVID-19 CHECKPOINT

Nongpoh,March 20: In one incident which occured last night at around 2:00 AM, one Scorpio bearing registration number ML10 D 8897 went and hit the Covid-19 Screening Centre in Umling damaging the front portion of the vehicle.

As per news sources received, it was said that this vehicle was plying from Shillong to Nongpoh and when it reached at Mawïong, a lady was found waiting for a vehicle and in a sympathetic gesture, it was said that the owner of the vehicle stopped to give her a lift, however, the moment he opened the vehicle door, two men forcefully entered inside the vehicle.

It is also said that after these men entered inside the vehicle, they threatened to kill the vehicle owner and kidnapped him to Byrnihat area, however on the way back and upon reaching close to the Covid-19 Screening Centre in Umling, the vehicle owner, in fear due to the threat on his life and also knowing that the police would be present in this centre, grabbed the steering wheel till the vehicle went and hit parts of the Covid-19 check gate.

Furthermore, it was informed that after the incident, the miscreants allegedly snatched the vehicle owner’s cash amounting to ₹1 lakh as well as his smart watch and iPhone, and fled soon after in a white colour vehicle which could not be identified.

It was also said that the vehicle owner after the accident at the Covid-19 Screening Centre, immediately notified the police who then set out a team to catch them at Lad Umsaw and we’re successful in arresting the miscreants suspected of being involved in the incident at 4:30 AM.
