The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) has suggested extending the reservation policy to include educational opportunities, proposing that 80% of seats be reserved for Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo students. The organization believes that providing opportunities based on merit within this quota will ensure fair competition.
HITO President, Donbok Dkhar, pointed out that discussions often focus solely on job reservations, overlooking educational reservations. The proposal was submitted to the Expert Committee on the Reservation Policy today.
Meanwhile, the Hynniewtrep National Youth Movement (HNYM) has recommended that the reservation policy be based on population size. HNYM President, Louis Dohtdong, cited various Supreme Court rulings that support the idea of aligning reservations with demographic representation.
