Shillong, April 9: H B Nonglang, Chairman of the Green Tech Foundation, on Thursday began an indefinite hunger strike outside the Secretariat in protest against the government’s decision to hand over 66 acres of Lumpongdeng at Umiam to the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL).
Nonglang stated that he will continue the hunger strike alone until the government formally withdraws the land allotment through a written order.
He said the protest represents the voices of thousands of people who have signed petitions opposing the project, adding that he is determined to remain at the Secretariat gate until action is taken.
The protest marks a significant escalation in opposition to the proposed development, with environmental concerns and public resistance continuing to grow.
