Shillong: The Minister incharge of Power, Abu Teher Mondal on Wednesday stated that the Meghalaya State Electricity Regulatory Commission (MSERC) has set the new electricity pricing, but the government has yet to receive the official order regarding this matter.
Speaking to reporters, Mondal explained that the he cannot comment on the pricing until it receives the order from the Commission. He noted that once the order is received, the government will review it accordingly.
When asked about the disparity in electricity tariffs, where factories electricity fees are lesser than the public, the Minister acknowledged that various factors contribute to this situation but assured that the government is working to address it.
On October 28, the MSERC, led by Chandan Kumar Mondol, revised the electricity pricing structure, implementing higher rates for the public and lower rates for factories.
According to the new order, residential consumers will be charged ₹90 per kilowatt per month, with a rate of ₹5.5 per kilowatt for the first 100 units and ₹5.65 for the next 100 units. In contrast, factories will face a monthly charge of ₹310 per kilowatt, with a rate of ₹6.51 per kilowatt.
