Shillong: The state government has decided to request the Airport Authority of India (AAI) to deny landing permission at Umroi Airport for the group planning to organize the Gau Dhwaj Sthapna Bharat Yatra rally in Shillong on September 28.
After receiving information about the planned rally, Chief Secretary D.P. Wahlang convened an urgent meeting with the Director General of Police (DGP), the Superintendents of Police (SPs) from Ri Bhoi and East Khasi Hills, and the Deputy Commissioners of the districts.
Speaking to the media, the Chief Secretary stated that the government would officially communicate with the AAI to prevent the landing of individuals associated with the cow protection rally at Shillong Airport. He emphasized that the organizers did not seek permission for any rally, and the authorities have carefully assessed the situation. East Khasi Hills’ Deputy Commissioner has already imposed Section 163 BNSS, and similar actions will be taken in Ri Bhoi.
The Chief Secretary also mentioned discussions with the Central Puja Committee, which has clarified that it does not support the rally and is unaware of its details. Additionally, security will be tightened with police checkpoints along highways to prevent the rally group from entering through other routes.
