SHILLONG: May 06: The Cabinet has approved the issuance of economically weaker sections certificates to people of the State, subject to other assets and if not yet covered under any other reservations.
The Chief Minister of Meghalaya,Conrad Kongkal Sangma informed that these certificates will be issued to those not covered under the ST/SC and Minorities reservation, and is not meant for all citizens. He said that excluding the SC/ST and others covered under other reservations, the households who will be receiving the certificate are those whose income is within Rs.8 lakhs per year, and if they posses any agricultural land, it should not exceed more than 5 acres in area and and those owning their own land.
As per the statement of the Chief Minister, these certificates will help the people to get a reservation in jobs and educational institutions of the Government of India.
