Shillong: The Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP), led by Vice President Kit Nongphlang, visited the protesting Adhoc school teachers at Madan Malki on Wednesday to extend support to their ongoing agitation. The protest, which began on September 22, has now entered its tenth day, with teachers demanding a pay hike and upgradation of Adhoc schools to the deficit system.
Expressing deep concern, Nongphlang criticised the state government’s priorities, stating that while funds are readily available for organising festivals and events, teachers are left to protest for their rightful dues. He stressed that education is one of the most important pillars of society and urged the government to resolve the issue without further delay.
The FKJGP leader further said it was disheartening that despite repeated electoral promises to improve education, teachers still find themselves compelled to take to the streets. He added that the government must act immediately to end this cycle of neglect and provide justice to the teaching community.
