The Durand Cup Organising Committee has announced a significant change in the venue and date for one of the semifinal matches in the ongoing Durand Cup Football Tournament. The semifinal match between Northeast United FC and Shillong Lajong FC has been rescheduled to Monday, August 26, at 5:30 PM, and will now take place at the JLN Stadium in Shillong.
This decision was made following the quarterfinal matches held yesterday, which saw thrilling performances from both Northeast United FC and Shillong Lajong FC. Their victories have generated immense excitement among their fans, leading to overwhelming requests to host the semifinal in Shillong—a venue with deep-rooted football traditions and strong support for both teams.
The change aims to provide fans, who are the heart of the tournament, with an opportunity to experience the excitement of this crucial match in an environment that truly resonates with their passion. The Organising Committee believes that this move will enhance the match’s atmosphere and provide the teams with the support they deserve as they compete for a place in the final.
The cooperation of the Department of Sports of the Government of West Bengal has been deeply appreciated in making this change possible, acknowledging the sentiments of the football fans in the Northeast, particularly in Meghalaya.
All other fixtures in the tournament remain unchanged. The semifinal and all 43 matches of the 133rd IndianOil Durand Cup are being broadcast live on the Sony Sports Network (Sony Sports Ten 2 HD & SD, Sony Sports Ten 3 HD & SD) and livestreamed on the SonyLiv OTT platform, with commentary available in both English (SonySports Ten 2) and Hindi (SonySports Ten 3).
The Durand Cup Organising Committee thanks the fans for their support, understanding, and cooperation and looks forward to a thrilling semifinal that embodies the spirit of the Durand Cup.
