Nongpoh: The Dorbar Shnong of Umsaitsning lad Mawrong has issued an order prohibiting the sale of tobacco to minors which will be implemented as per the regulations of the local administrative body or Dorbar Shnong.
Frankie Nongrum, Headman of Umsaitsning lad Mawrong informed that the order had to be promulgated on the basis that products such as bidi, cigarettes and rolling tobacco are bad for health.
The VDP has been entrusted with the task of making this order heard in the ears of every local resident and they have started this by putting up posters in every corner of the localities in the village and shops followed by a warning against violators which includes a fine of ₹1 lakh and imprisonment of 7 years as per the Juvenile Justice Act Section 77 prescribed by the Government of India.
After about a month since the prohibition order was released,today the Headman and the President of the Village Defense Party, Titsuk Kharbani inspected many shops in Umsaitsning lad Mawrong village in order to find out if the shop owners followed the order as stipulated by the local village administration uniformly.
