Dhubri-Phulbari bridge will be a big game changer for the NE region

HEADLINES

The 19.3 km bridge spanning the Brahmaputra River between Dhubri (Assam) and Phulbari (Meghalaya) is set to significantly reduce travel distances, cutting the journey by 200 km, informed Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Mondal said that schedule for completion by 2028, the bridge is currently under construction and will form a vital link connecting Dhubri to Tura, Meghalaya, via Nongstoin. The route will be designated as National Highway 127, stretching approximately 400 km from Serampur in West Bengal to Nongstoin, with around 300 km of the highway passing through Meghalaya.

Once completed, this transformative project will boost livelihoods, enhance trade opportunities, and ease travel between Meghalaya, Assam, and West Bengal, fostering regional development and integration, he added.
