CONRAD WELCOMES THE REDUCTION OF AFSPA BY THE PRIME MINISTER IN 3 STATES OF THE NE

Shillong: The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Kongkal Sangma expressed his happiness at the steps prepared to be taken by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi in reducing the implementation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act(AFSPA) in three states of the North-Eastern region which include Assam, Nagaland and Manipur.

Speaking with media persons, Sangma said that this is one the pending issues for the people of the north-eastern region of India which without fail will prepare the spread of happy news to the public.

Furthermore,Sangma said that this decision to reduce the implementation of AFSPA clearly indicates the due importance given and also the feeling of closeness the Prime Minister as well as the Union Home Minister have for the people of the North-East region.

Sangma reminded that the public of the region have for a very long time demanded that the AFSPA has exceeded it’s stipulated time and has not yielded the results set for its implementation as aimed from the beginning, and in looking at the situation in the area, Sangma personally feels that perhaps it is time to at once revoke it completely.
