Shillong, April 10: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday inaugurated the Indoor Sports Hall and renovated amenities at St Mary’s College Shillong, along with equipment procured under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA 2.0).
The event was attended by Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui and MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh, along with officials from the education department.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister praised the role of educational institutions and missions in delivering quality education, stating that the government works closely with them and provides financial support of nearly ₹1,200 crore annually.
He emphasised that the education sector must prioritise students at its core, noting that reforms began showing results only after shifting focus towards student-centric policies.
Sangma also highlighted that while education remains a complex sector with multiple challenges, the government is committed to implementing reformative and transformative changes to strengthen it.
The RUSA 2.0 scheme, a centrally sponsored initiative, aims to enhance access, equity, and quality in higher education, supporting infrastructure development, institutional reforms, and capacity building across state institutions.
