Shillong — The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on Friday recovered the body of a 50-year-old man from the Umkhen River at Jaroit village in East Khasi Hills District. The deceased, identified as Kellshon Shadap, a resident of Pdengshnong, Nonghali, had gone missing while fishing on Thursday evening.
The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), East Khasi Hills, activated the SDRF following the report of the missing person. The team, led by Sub-Inspector D.K. Kharbih, left headquarters at 6 a.m. and reached the site by 8 a.m. After assessing the situation, SDRF personnel T. Khongstia and I. Lapasam conducted a search using barbed wire and diving techniques, successfully recovering the body after half an hour.
The remains were later handed over to Diengpasoh Police for necessary legal procedures.
