BESIDES MAKING HINDI A COMPULSORY SUBJECT, CONRAD WANTS THE INDIAN GOVERNMENT TO CONDUCT RESEARCHES OF MOTHER TONGUES

SHILLONG, April 12: The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Kongkal Sangma said that he does not see any harm in having other languages be it Hindi, English or any other languages, and added that if any official work is to be taken world over, English is required to be known and in India, Hindi is spoken by a majority and studying the Hindi language is an advantage for the youths of the State to learn how to speak the language, and it is not bad to study the Hindi language.

He said that the State Government has not received any instructions from the Central Government to make Hindi a compulsory subject, and added that he does not know how it will be implemented, but he expressed that the Union Home Minister has clearly stated that the mother tongue will be at the top of all languages.

The Chief Minister said that he also wants the Indian Government to conduct researches on the mother tongue by also establishing research centres, by also giving finds for this process to promote the mother tongue, and at the same time to also encourage the youths to study Hindi and English.
