Assembly Dome Collapse: Inquiry on Assembly Dome safety is completed, report to follow

SHILLONG, August 11: The Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Metbah Lyngdoh said that the inquiry on the collapse of the new Meghalaya Legislative Assembly dome has progressed and also informed that he had requested the Chief Minister of Meghalaya to speed up the report submission from the PWD(Buildings).

He informed that he had received information that IIM-Guwahati is almost ready with the report on the safety of the two parts of the installation or the left wing and right wing, and are at present investigating the strength of the building foundation.

Metbah Lyngdoh also informed that the Chief Minister has given due importance to this matter, and promised to have the enquiry completed at the earliest, and after this a meeting will be called with the High Powered Committee.

It may be mentioned that the dome of the new Meghalaya Legislative Assembly building in Mawdiangdiang collapsed suddenly at the midnight hour of the 22nd of May which led to major damages in parts of the building. After the collapse of the dome the High Powered Committee which is the supervising authority of this building authorised a third party audit which was headed by IIM-Guwahati.
