Shillong: Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has alleged that the public rally called by the Voice of the People Party (VPP) is politically motivated, aimed at the upcoming MP elections.
Speaking on Tuesday, Dhar said the state government has already resolved the issue concerning Lumpongdeng, reiterating statements made a day earlier by Prestone Tynsong and Wailadmiki Shylla that the government has decided to withdraw the project from the site.
He added that with elections approaching, there are attempts to politicise the issue and the VPP’s call for a public gathering may be driven by such motives.
The VPP has announced a rally on Wednesday at Motphran as part of its protest against the government, alleging betrayal and disregard for the interests of the indigenous community.
