Kyrmen Shylla Backs Party’s Decision on Ministerial Change, Says More Time Now for Constituency Work

HEADLINES

Shillong: UDP MLA Kyrmen Shylla has expressed support for his party’s decision to reshuffle ministerial positions, saying that while the move affected him personally, party interest must come first. Responding to questions on his removal as a minister along with Paul, Shylla said he accepted the party’s decision as it was collectively taken and discussed beforehand by UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh.

Shylla said he did not feel bitter about losing the ministerial post and stressed that the authority to decide on ministers rests with the party. He also dismissed speculation of joining the NPP, stating that his loyalty remains with the UDP and that the people of his constituency continue to repose faith in the party.

Reflecting on the change, Shylla said that while being a minister allows one to work more broadly for the state, stepping down has given him more time to focus on constituency-level issues. He described this as both a loss and a gain — a loss in terms of reduced influence at the state level, but a gain in being able to serve constituents more directly and effectively.

He added that he now has greater time to engage with people in his constituency and address their concerns. Shylla also noted that under the present government, development schemes are not restricted only to ministers, as MLAs too are being supported to implement welfare and development initiatives.
