Shillong, Nov 20 — West Shillong MLA and former minister Paul Lyngdoh has played down speculation that he may contest the 2028 Assembly election on a National People’s Party (NPP) ticket, saying it is far too early to comment on such possibilities.
Responding with a smile when asked about the rumours, the UDP legislator said there is a saying that “even one week is a long time in politics” and added that, if counted in weeks, there are still many left before 2028. He reiterated that it is “much too early” for him to speak on the matter.
On his recent removal from the state cabinet, Paul said there was nothing personal about the decision, describing it as part of the way politics and government function. He also stated that he had no prior information that he would be replaced as minister.
