Ajmer: In a shocking incident, police have alleged that a 28-year-old woman identified as Anjali, also known as Priya, from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, killed her three-year-old daughter by throwing her into the Ana Sagar Lake in Ajmer.
According to police, Anjali, who worked as a receptionist at a local hotel alongside her partner Alkesh, reportedly committed the act after facing constant taunts from him, who often remarked that the child was from her previous marriage.
Investigations revealed that Anjali was seen on CCTV carrying her daughter around the lake late at night before returning alone. Initially, she told police that the child had gone missing while they were out for a walk, but under interrogation, she confessed to killing her daughter.
Police recovered the girl’s body from the lake on Wednesday morning. Anjali admitted that she had first lulled her child to sleep with a lullaby before throwing her into the water. She claimed she was mentally distressed by her partner’s repeated taunts.
Anjali has been arrested by Christian Ganj police on charges of murder. Authorities are also investigating whether Alkesh had any direct role in the incident.
