MFA Announces Cash Incentives for Meghalaya Players Representing India

HEADLINES

Shillong: In a major boost for local footballers, the Meghalaya Football Association (MFA) has decided to award financial incentives to players from the state who go on to represent Team India at international level.

As per the decision taken at an MFA meeting on Friday, players in the senior national teams (men and women) will receive ₹50,000, those in the U-23 teams will get ₹40,000, while those representing the junior or sub-junior national sides will be granted ₹25,000.

The move comes at a time when several promising footballers from Meghalaya have been making their mark on the national stage. In recent years, the Indian women’s U-17 and U-20 squads have featured players like Fragrancy Riwan, Ribansi Jamu, Alisha Lyngdoh, and Bonifilia Shullai. In the men’s game, Manbhakupar Malngiang and Banlamkupar Rynjah were in the India U-17s last year, while Lionel Daryl Rymmei made the U-20 squad.

Earlier generations also produced talents like Ricky Shabong and Halen Nongtdu at the junior level, and legends such as Eugeneson Lyngdoh, Aiborlang Khongjee, and Rocus Lamare, who proudly wore the senior India jersey.

The MFA hopes the incentives will inspire more Meghalaya players to chase the dream of donning the Blue Tigers kit.
