Shillong: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong incharge of Home Department, has issued a stern warning against the misuse of sirens and tinted glasses on vehicles by individuals attempting to pose as VIPs in the state.
He stated that the government will soon prohibit such unauthorized use of beacon lights and sirens, and violators will face strict legal action.
Speaking on the issue of VVIP and VIP misuse, Tynsong said some individuals have been abusing their positions of influence. He informed that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are being finalized to curb the “VVIP culture,” ensuring that only duly authorized persons, based on their rank and designation, are allowed such privileges.
It may be recalled that last Friday, police apprehended a man along with 13 others posing as his bodyguards, moving around the city in a convoy of luxury vehicles. The police also seized five air guns from the group.
