The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved a series of Bills to be tabled in the upcoming Budget Session of the State Assembly, scheduled from February 28 to March 13, 2025.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma informed that the Cabinet has cleared amendments and new legislation, including:
🔹 Meghalaya State Investment Promotion and Facilitation Bill, 2025
🔹 Meghalaya Fiscal Responsibility and Management (Amendment) Bill
🔹 Enhancement of the Corpus Fund to ₹1,005 crore
🔹 Amendments to the Meghalaya Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act to align with the GST Council’s decisions
🔹 Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Amendment Act as per Parliament’s directives
Additionally, the government will introduce amendments to the Meghalaya Police Act to comply with the Supreme Court’s directive, ensuring that the Director General of Police (DGP) serves a minimum tenure of two years.
Another key amendment will be made to the Meghalaya Registration of Births and Deaths Rules to streamline registration procedures.
The upcoming session is expected to see extensive discussions on these Bills and other legislative matters.
