The Hynñiewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) Narpuh Circle has strongly opposed the Public Hearing scheduled for M/S Megha Top Cement Pvt Ltd in Wahiajer, East Jaiñtia Hills District. The group submitted a letter of protest to Dr. G.H. Chyrmang, Member Secretary of the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board, expressing concerns about the environmental and social impact of the proposed cement plant.
HANM Narpuh Circle President, Pyndap Syiemlieh, told the media that the area already hosts eight cement factories, which have significantly polluted the air in the Elaka Narpuh region. He also criticized the lack of local job opportunities, claiming that most workers in the existing plants are hired from outside the state, leaving local youths unemployed.
Syiemlieh further argued that the cement factories benefit only a few individuals with vested interests, while the broader community sees little to no positive impact from their presence.
