Shillong: The 3rd State Level Inter-School Traditional Singing Competition concluded successfully at the Lariti Performing Centre, celebrating Meghalaya’s rich musical heritage. Organised by the Department of Arts & Culture in collaboration with Shillong Public School, the event drew enthusiastic participation from schools across the state.

Dressed in vibrant traditional attire, students enthralled the audience with soulful indigenous tunes and rhythmic performances using traditional instruments, reviving long-forgotten tribal melodies.

Principal Secretary F.R. Kharkongor, who graced the event as Chief Guest, stressed the importance of staying connected to one’s roots and nature. He assured continued government support for such initiatives that “preserve, protect, and promote authenticity and indigeneity,” and encouraged students to become “cultural ambassadors of the next generation.”

Padma Shri Silby Passah inspired the young participants with an energetic rendition of traditional phawars and urged them to embrace their cultural heritage with pride.

The competition concluded with the prize distribution ceremony, where Synod School bagged the top prize for group performance highlighting traditional instruments, while Meghalaya Public School secured first place in the solo category.
