Shillong, Oct 15: The National Health Mission (NHM) Employees Association of Meghalaya today inaugurated the “NHM Sports Meet” at the Nongkseh Sports Ground, Shillong, under the theme “Wellness through Sports, Service through Health.” The event aims to promote physical well-being, teamwork, and holistic health among healthcare professionals.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Shri Wailadmiki Shylla, Hon’ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare, and Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, as Chief Guest. In his address, he commended the NHM employees for setting an example of practicing the healthy lifestyle they advocate. “As health workers, you’ve shown that we live what we preach,” he said, assuring continued government recognition of their service.
Dr. Carol Iangrai, Joint Director of Health Services, emphasized that “health is not merely the absence of illness but a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being.” She praised NHM’s role in strengthening the healthcare system and highlighted the importance of sports in combating non-communicable diseases.
Shri M. Thangkhiew, Headman of Nongkseh and General Secretary of the Nongkseh Sports Social and Cultural Hub, welcomed the participants and encouraged them to enjoy the scenic and historic locality. Aligning with the event’s theme, he reminded attendees that “a healthy mind resides in a healthy body.”
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Shri Edison Khymdeit, Sports Organising Member cum President, DEC, NEAM, EKH.
The multi-day sports meet, taking place from October 15 to 17, aims to foster camaraderie and promote wellness within the health sector workforce, reinforcing NHM’s vision of a healthy and motivated team.
