Jowai: In a tragic incident, police on Tuesday morning, October 7, recovered the body of a 17-year-old student of North Liberty Higher Secondary School, Jowai, suspected to have died after falling from the fourth floor of an under-construction building near the Polytechnic gate at Mooralong, Jowai.
Police said they were alerted around 4:30 am and, upon reaching the spot, found the boy lying lifeless on the ground with a severe head injury. The deceased has been identified as a resident of Priang, Iooksi. His school bag and belongings were recovered from the fourth floor of the building.
Crime Scene Unit officials inspected the site and collected evidence while police continue their investigation to ascertain the cause of death.
It was further learnt that the boy was staying in a rented house at Memory Colony, near Jowai Public School. He reportedly left the house on the night of October 6 and never returned. His roommate later raised an alarm when he failed to come back, leading to a search.
