SHILLONG, April 14: The police arrested two persons yesterday evening involved in sending threatening emails to blow up a few educational institutions,calling themselves by the name of ‘Lawei ba Phyrnai’. The two were arrested within two weeks after the first email was sent to the Chief Minister of Meghalaya and media agencies.
The Minister incharge of the Home Department (Police), Lahkmen Rymbui said that the police have followed up on the threats after the group calling itself ‘Lawei ba Phyrnai’ had sent threatening emails to several media agencies proclaiming their intention to perform acts of terror.
He said that the police through their persistent investigation were able to arrest two persons from Shillong on the evening of the 13th April and also seized a few incriminating materials used by them. He said that from amongst the arrested persons, one is the person who had sent the email while the other is a helper, and presently the police are conducting a thorough investigation on the two to find out about others involved.
On being queried, Rymbui said that the arrested persons are well educated people and the emails sent are understood to have been sent to create confusion in people’s mind while also stating that the ulterior motive in the minds of the arrested persons is being investigated by the police.
