Shillong: The four elected representatives of the Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) have not indicated the Speaker’s Office weather to be part of the opposition or the ruling side, informed the Meghalaya Legislative Speaker Thomas A Sangma on Monday.
“I have only received applications from the two parties- the Congress and the TMC but the VPP has not submitted any indication to be part of the opposition or to stay here nor stay there”, replied Speaker Sangma on the query if there has been any request to recognise a Leader of the Opposition (LO).
The Speaker further informed that the two parties who have submitted their applications have submitted an application to recognise as a separate “entity”.
It may be mentioned that the Congress and the TMC have 5 MLAs in each side, whereas, the VPP has 4 elected legislators. The opposition requires a total of 1/6 (10) members to elect the Leader of Opposition (LO).
