Shillong: Panic prevailed along the Shillong–Dawki highway on Wednesday evening after falling boulders damaged a commercial vehicle and a JCB earth mover near Mawlieh, close to Lyngkyrdem village. The incident occurred around 7:30 pm at a stretch where road construction work is underway, with loose rocks and unstable slopes.
The falling stones also struck roadside structures. Fortunately, the occupants escaped with minor injuries caused by shock and debris, avoiding any loss of life. The incident has raised fresh concerns over safety along the road, especially after vehicular movement was recently allowed round-the-clock in the area.
