The Voice of the People Party (VPP), through its State Election Committee (SEC), has officially withdrawn the ticket earlier granted to Bah Marbiang Nongsiej for contesting the MDC elections to the KHADC from Nongstoin constituency this year. The ticket has now been allotted to Bah Juristman Iawphniaw.
In a statement issued today, the SEC Secretary, Bah Londoner Sohtun, stated that the decision to revoke Bah Marbiang’s ticket was taken in the interest of the party and the public.
It may be noted that reports had surfaced earlier suggesting that VPP had asked Bah Marbiang to step down as the candidate after his name was initially announced. These reports had sparked dissatisfaction among VPP leaders, prompting the party president to issue a WhatsApp status refuting such claims. However, within just a week, the rumors have turned into reality as the party has formally replaced Bah Marbiang with Bah Juristman.
This decision by the VPP is expected to have a significant impact, as such abrupt changes after an announcement of candidature may not sit well with the public. Many party supporters, especially those aligned with Bah Marbiang, have expressed disappointment over the party’s decision to revoke the ticket.
The move by VPP, while taken in the name of party strategy, has raised questions about internal management and could potentially affect the party’s image as well as its support base.y
