VPP Alleges Discrimination in ₹10 Lakh Pension Disbursement for Retired Teachers, Demands Fair Treatment

HEADLINES

The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has raised concerns with Commissioner & Secretary of Education, Vijay Mantri, regarding the delays in disbursing the Death cum Retirement Gratuity (DCRG) for retired teachers in Meghalaya. Despite being eligible for a one-time payment of ₹10 lakh upon retirement or death, many teachers have not received this payment, while only a few have, leading to accusations of favoritism by the government.

Mawlai MLA, Brightstarwell Marbaniang, stated that the government must expedite the release of payments to all retired teachers without discrimination. He also highlighted discrepancies in salary structures, noting that college teachers should receive the University Grant Commission (UGC) pay scale but are instead being paid according to the state pay scale.

Additionally, the VPP has called for PhD holders to receive increments and for the removal of age restrictions for teaching positions in colleges, as per UGC norms. The party also urged the government to speed up the confirmation of teachers who have been serving for up to three years without official recognition and demanded the release of arrears for educators.

The VPP further criticized the process for conducting the Assistant Professor in Physical Education exam, arguing that the involvement of sports administrators goes against UGC guidelines, which require that examiners should come from recognized academic institutions like NEHU or universities.
