Chaos broke out during the general assembly (Dorbar Bah) of the Hima Langrin on Friday after the meeting descended into violence following its conclusion.
The gathering turned chaotic as clashes erupted among those present, with stones reportedly being hurled outside the venue.
According to information received, several police personnel sustained injuries while attempting to disperse the crowd. Chairs arranged under the tent were also smashed and left damaged in the violence.
The Dorbar was convened in the aftermath of a recent public march to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC). Speaking
on the matter, the Syiem of Hima Langrin, Nongtei Syiem, said the meeting was called to clarify the allegations that had prompted the protest.
He also maintained that taking out a march to the District Council was not the proper way to address such issues.
