SHILLONG, April 27: The Khasi Students’Union has expressed its objection to the demand of the residents of Them Ïew Mawlong to be provided a land along with money for them to build houses on their own.

The Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) at the meeting with the Government on the 25th of this month, had put up a few demands with the Government in order to relocate from Them Ïew Mawlong. The demand is for the Government to give them a big plot of land measuring 10 acres in the European Ward with 200 sq/m for each family as well as money for them to build their own houses.

The President of the KSU, Lambokstarwell Marngar said that the residents of them Ïew Mawlong are not the youngest children of the Government and the Government should not listen to or accept these demands.

He said that the demand made by the residents of Them Ïew Mawlong is an act which points to them not wanting to relocate or co-operate, but to try and show their might. He added that if the residents are employees in the Government departments, then it is the duty of the departments concerned to take the responsibility of the employees.

The General Secretary of the KSU, Donald V.Thabah said that if these same residents were residing illegally in their own native place in Punjab, they might have already been chased out without any assistance.

He said that the group which usually comes and interferes for the these residents in the State should take them along with them and build houses for them but outside of Meghalaya. Because the locals who illegally open up shops even if they are Khasis are chased out. He said that the Government must show its might and should not provide anything to them but should only chuck them out for the safety and security in Them Ïew Mawlong.
