Shillong, December 02: S. Osbourne Kharjana who retired as an Officer of the Customs Department said that in any party there will always be a difference of opinion, but there is also an understanding that comes again, and at present, the Congress is in the midst of new change, which required a complete change of leaders in the State.
He said he had actually wanted to contest the Election from the United Democratic Party (UDP), however, God opened the doors for him to go to Congress, where he found it as a party that has a strong foundation and can bring peace amongst the communities.
He said that the goal he has set forth is to improve education, health, and the law which can help the farmers. He said that if he wins, as much as he can he will try to bring changes in these policies.
On being queried about his confidence in contesting against former MLA, H.D.R Lyngdoh and present MLA, Samlin Malngiang, Kharjana said that the old leaders have an old way of thinking, and if the people want change they have to choose new leaders while adding that he does not know if it will be easy or hard to contest against them, but the intention in his fighting the election is to do so for the people and the country and it is up to the people if they find him worthy.
Kharjana who is also the son of former ex MLA, Nit Shabong(1983-1988) said that the decision to enter politics comes after seeing the defects in governance which led him to feel embarrassed, and added further that the saddest part is that the representatives were not seen to be lawmakers.
