Today the 14th of April, the Khasi Students Union,North Khasi Hills District led by President, Ferdinal Kharkamni and accompanied by the local residents of Khlieh Umwang village met with the Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi District, Arpit Upadhyay to discuss on the arrest of 3 Khasi youths by Assam Police on the 10th of April.
On this day, Ferdinal Kharkamni expressed his concern over the highhanded action in arresting the 3 Khasi youths who have been accused of being involved in torching a bridge. He also said that the organisation had already conducted an inspection of the bridge but found no sign or evidence as alleged by the Assam Police.
Ferdinal Kharkamni also said that the arrest and accusation of the Assam Police is baseless and he also said that this action of the Assam Police could have been pre-planned by Assam Police just so they can arrest the 3 youths.
Brom Singh Surong as a resident of Khlieh Umwang informed that these 3 youths are farmers and innocent and are friends well known to him.
He also said that before the incident occured the 3 youths were helping him in pushing this vehicle which had been stuck due in the muddy road due to a heavy rainfall.
The KSU, NKHD has made a pressing request to the State Government to bring back the 3 youths to Meghalaya and that they be taken into the custody of the State Police for further investigation.
